چکیده

A new class of applications with stringent quality of service (QoS) requirements on communication (e.g., bandwidth, delay) are being made possible by the advent of high-speed networks. End-to-end communication performance is largely determined by a variety of factors, such as the underlying network technology, the end-host operating system, and the interface between the host and the network. As network speeds increase, the performance bottleneck tends to shift to the end host, especially to the hardware/software components of the communication subsystem. In this paper , we focus on the design of one such component, the network adapter, and how it interacts with the host communication software to provide QoS guarantees. In particular, we explore QoS issues in adapter design via an Emulated Network Device (END) that interfaces to a real communication protocol stack. The END can emulate all the operations required of a network adapter, without interfacing to a real network. This allows us to model the behavior of a host and its interaction with a network model of our choice. In general, network device emulation permits designers to experiment with network adapter and host interface design, including the partitioning of functionality between the host communication software and the hardware//rmware on the network adapter, before actually developing a prototype implementation of the adapter. More importantly, the experimentation can be carried out on the target host platform, thus accounting for software overheads and host architectural features that innuence communication performance. We present the design and implementation of END and demonstrate its utility by studying the performance of our implementation of real-time channels, a model for provision of QoS guarantees in packet-switched networks. Novel Methods For Determining QoS Parameters and Thresholds in End User's Service Level Agreement

Service level agreement (SLA) is a powerful tool to formalize the negotiation and agreement between the service provider and service seeker with the scope of service quality characteristics, compensations and tariffs. The service quality description is the main part of a SLA which can be characterized by the use of suitable and feasible quality of service (QoS) parameters. Determining suitable ...

QoSJava: An End-to-End QoS Solution

Incompatibility of different QoS (Quality of Service) mechanisms and heterogeneity of different vendors’ network devices are the major obstacles for providing end-to-end QoS in IP network. Inspired by Java, we propose an end-to-end QoS solution in this paper, i.e. QoSJava, which decouples QoS requirements from network details. By QoS Mechanisms Adapter and Device Driver, which act as “Java Virt...

Improving the QoS in Intelligent Connected EVSE by Using RPL

Nowadays, a great portion of researches research and industrial innovation is about the electric vehicles (EV) and also EV Supply Equipment (EVSE) that play an important role in this context. EVSE requires standardization via effective communication protocols. In this paper, we propose to customize the existing Internet standard Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) to facilit...

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....

Managing Group Dynamics and Failures in QoS Multicasting

The phenomenal growth of group communications and QoS-aware applications over the Internet have accelerated the need for scalable and efficient network support. In addition to requiring network support, the group-based applications also demand stringent QoS requirements in terms of end-to-end delay, delay jitter, and loss. It is the responsibility of the multicast routing protocol to construct ...
